So Will Pertz’s piece “was a poor attempt at hyper-intellectual slop” but after someone had to inform you that it was in jest, it became “playful mockery of music’s high academia” and “clever.”

I’m sorry, but I just don’t buy this.

(1) Pertz’s composition seems more like a thumbed nose at 1970s experiential pieces by Earle Brown and company than of “music’s high academia”… whatever that is.

(2) If someone has to tell you it’s a joke… it’s a bad joke.
