Just in case you are curious, I am going to write about my time studying with Syd Hodkinson at Aspen in July and I am going to attend a Gnawa music performance in Morocco tomorrow (I am currently in Fes visiting my brother who teaches english here), I think I might pull something together about that too, depending on the quality of the performance.

The only correct title for the Babbitt article is “The Composer as Specialist.” He never sanctioned the other, which was appended by an editor at High Fidelity without his knowledge or consent.

Correction: the soloist in my piece (& also not a concerto) “Two Jades” is Xiang Gao.

It should also be noted that “Two Jades”, Bright Sheng’s “Shanghai Overture”, William Bolcom’s “Concerto for Saxophone Quartet”, and Michael Daugherty’s “Lost Vegas” were all commissioned by UM Director of Bands Michael Haithcock for the 2011 UM Symphony Band Tour of China, which will take place in May.
