World Premiere of Choral Music of Steven R. Gerber to be Performed by The New York Virtuoso Singers on June 4 in New York City

Gerber’s Sessions of Sweet Silent Thought for chorus a cappella will be performed by The New York Virtuoso Singers; Harold Rosenbaum, conductor on Wednesday, June 4 – 7:30 PM at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater at Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway at 95th Street in Manhattan.
This concert, New Music Matters, is being presented by the American Composers Alliance as the opening night of their Festival of American Music 2008. Other new choral works to be presented include Mark Zuckerman’s Two Browning Settings, Brian Fennelly’s Soon Shall the Winter’s Foil, Robert Ceely’s Five Contemplative Pieces, Gregory Hall’s April, Jody Rockmaker’s Yiddish Choruses, Louis Karchin’s To the Stars, John Eaton’s Duo, Edward Jacobs’ When Time and Elliott Schwartz’s Two Watterson Poems.

I went to this concert and found it to be quite excellent. Too bad there were not more attending.
I particularly liked the John Eaton and Steven Gerber pieces. I did not know these composers and since have checked them out. Gerber is very impressive, has several releases of orchestral music out there.
