New York’s premier viol consort, Parthenia, will present When Music and Sweet Poetry Agree: the Musical Worlds of Shakespeare, Donne and Blake as part of the Monadnock Music Festival 2008on Wednesday, July 30 – 8:00 PM at Peterborough Town House, 1 Grove Street in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Special guests are actor Paul Hecht and soprano Ellen Hargis.

This concert will feature new and early works, including A Reliquary for William Blake by Will Ayton (b.1948), and three other works by the composer, Fantasia on a theme of Henry Purcell, Rest Sweet Nymphs and selections from Songs of the British. Early music selections include It was a lover and his lass by Thomas Morley (1557-1602), Fantasy on All in a Garden Greene by John Jenkins (1592-1678), Galliard: The Fairy Round by Anthony Holborne (c.1545-1602), Fantasy a 4 by William Byrd (c.1539-1623), Ah dear heart by Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625) and works by William Corkine (fl.1610-1620), Tobias Hume (c.1569-1645) and Alfonso Ferrabosco (c.1580-1628), counterpointed with poetry by John Donne and Shakespeare.
