Electroacoustic and choral music of Judith Shatin will be presented in North Carolina and Scotland on the following dates:

Penelope’s Song for saxophone, electronics and video will be performed by saxophonist Susan Fancher on Wednesday, May 27, 8 PM at the Recital Hall of the University of North Carolina at Greenbsoro School of Music, 100 McIver Street in Greensboro, N.C.

Penelope’s Song is a tribute to Penelope, Queen of Ithaca and wife of Odysseus. It was inspired by Homer’s epic, the Odyssey. This piece has been recorded by Susan Fancher (http://home.earthlink.net/~fanch/) for her In Two Worlds CD on the Innova label.

This program is presented as part of the school’s Feminist Theory and Music 10: Improvising and Galvanizing, a symposium held from May 27 to 31. More about FTM 10, including a list of other works on the May 27 concert, at http://www.uncg.edu/mus/FTM10/index.html.

Ms. Shatin’s Adonai Ro’I for SATB chorus will be presented by Cathures, directed by Katy Cooper, on Saturday, May 30, 8 PM at The Burrell Collection, 2060 Pollokshaws Road in Glasgow, Scotland, as part of a concert of sacred music from various traditions.

Adonai Ro’I (Psalm 23) for a cappella SATB chorus was composed by Judith Shatin. It was written during the week after November 4, 1995 which marked the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, then Prime Minister of Israel. The text of Psalm 23 is sung in Hebrew with simplicity of texture and harmonic language.
