About the performers:
Laurie Rubin, Mezzo-Soprano
Laurie Rubin’s voice has been described by New York Times critic Anthony Tommasini as “earthy, rich, and poignant,” with “compelling artistry and communicative power.” Among her recent performances are the role of “Penelope” in Monteverdi’s Il Ritorno D’Ulisse in Patria at the Greenwich Music Festival, and a shocking mad scene for mezzo-soprano as “Karen” in Gordon Beeferman’s opera The Rat Land, at the New York City Opera VOX Festival in May 2009.
Amelia Lukas, alto flute
The Boston Globe has hailed flutist Amelia Lukas for having “”a buoyancy of spirit that comes out in the flute, a just beautiful sound.” Ms. Lukas’ recent projects include performances at the Stone, Le Poisson Rouge, Carnegie’s Zankel and Weill Halls, and premieres of works by Columbia University composers at Lincoln Center.
