The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) Spearheads its 13th Season with a BIG BANG Program Spotlighting Percussive Works The nation’s leading orchestra dedicated exclusively to performing, commissioning, and recording new music, presents the season’s first of four varied instrument-centric performances at Jordan Hall the evening of Friday, November 13, 2009. As part of its season long dedication to emphasizing the principal and austere elements of an orchestra, this particular all-percussion BIG BANG program highlights a threesome of masterworks expressly written for orchestra and percussion. The trifecta starts with what has been credited as the first Western work for percussion alone Ionization by Edgard Varese followed by the New England premiere of Lou Harrison’s La Koro Sutro featuring guest artist, Providence Singers; and lastly a revival of the infamous Ballet Mecanique by George Antheil.
