Quintet of the Americas in Concert with Cuarteto Latinoamericano on March 10 at New York’s Americas Society – Concert Celebrates Bicentennial of Mexican Independence

New York, NY, The Quintet of the Americas woodwind quintet will be in concert with Cuarteto Latinoamericano string quartet on Wednesday, March 10, 7:00 PM at the Americas Society, 680 Park Avenue at 68th Street in Manhattan. This concert will celebrate the Bicentennial of Mexican Independence.
A special work has been commissioned for the event from Mexican composer Mario Lavista. The new work, Gargantúa, is a nonet for the combined forces of the winds and strings of the two ensembles. Also on the program, Quintet of the Americas will perform Danza del mediodia by Arturo Marquez, Juegos nocturnos by Federico Ibarra and another work by Lavista, Marsias for solo oboe and 8 tuned water glasses which will feature Quintet oboist Matt Sullivan accompanied by the other Quintet members playing the tuned water glasses. The Cuarteto will also perform La Calaca (last dance from Altar de Muertos) by Gabriela Ortiz.
