Beth Anderson’s Country Time for voice and drums will be performed as part of Melodies and Trees, a concert by the Sonora Trio on Saturday, July 31 – 2 PM at the Columbus Branch Library, 742 10th Avenue (between 50th and 51st Streets) in Manhattan.
Country Time is a text-sound work that was recorded for and broadcast over National Public Radio, and is available on the Pogus CD, Peachy Keen-O. Ms. Anderson’s poem is recited rhythmically to drum beats and demonstrates the idea of poetry as music.
Other composers on the program include Alan Hovhannes, Judith Sainte Croix, Daniel Dorff, Toru Takemitsu, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Antonio Carlos Jobim. This concert also features poetry by Goyyakla, Chicharia Apache, Si’ahl of the Duwamish Native America people of the Pacific Northwest and Joyce Kilmer.
Performers will be the Sonora Trio – Judith Sainte Croix, Native American flute and drum, keyboard, voice and composer; Andrew Bolotowsky, flutes; and Oren Fader, electric guitar.
The July 31 concert is free and open to the public. For information about the concert series, call 212-586-5098 or visit http://www.nypl.org/locations/columbus.
