Mainly written while the composer was held in a prisoner-of-war camp, Olivier
Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time is a powerful statement of the his spirituality,
reflecting his love of nature, his interest in numerology, and his profound Catholic
faith. Many people consider it to be the most beautiful and moving chamber work of
the 20th century. To pair with this masterpiece, the Playground has commissioned
our own Brian Ebert to write a companion piece: Fragments of Om, which draws
inspiration from several religious traditions. This concert promises to be a
transcendent experience.
