MeiraWarshauer1009The Italian Premiere of Meira Warshauer’s In Memoriam September 11 for solo cello and stringswill be presented on Sunday, March 10 at 8:00 PM by EurOrchestra, Francesco Lentini, conductor, at the Church of San Carlo Borromeo in Bari. This performance is presented in cooperation with Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne In Musica and will be recorded for local radio and subsequently streamed internationally through CEMAT in Rome.

The composer writes about In Memoriam, “I wrote these sketches (originally for solo cello) during the days of watching the horror of the attacks of September 11: the collapse of the World Trade Center, the attack on the Pentagon, the plane crash in Pennsylvania – I didn’t have a piece in mind, or consciously set out to write one. But the sketches seemed to belong together, afterwards, and to fit the solo cello – It is my way of holding each other in our loss.” Read her full notes at http://www.meirawarshauer.com/NEW/pages/Program_notes/September_11_notes.html and visit her website at http://www.meirawarshauer.com.
