March 24: Cellist Suzanne Mueller Will Premiere a New Solo Cello Commission by Composer Carol Worthey

The closing concert of the 2013 Islip Arts Council’s Winter Concert Series will
take place March 24 at 2:00 PM at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great
River, NY. The concert, by the cello/piano duo CROSS ISLAND – cellist Suzanne Mueller and pianist Elinor Abrams Zayas - will include the world premiere of the abridged version of Carol Worthey‘s solo cello work, Solitaire: Theme and Variations.
The extended version of Solitaire will be featured on Ms. Mueller’s upcoming solo CD, Semicentennial Solitaire, and she will also perform it on a July 29 solo concert at Old Westbury Gardens (Old Westbury, LI, NY). Solitaire was commissioned in celebration of the cellist’s 50th birthday and to commemorate a decade as Summer Sunday Concerts Artist-in-Residence at the Gardens.
The rest of the program will consist of duets and solos (both piano and cello) by Beethoven, Richard Rodney Bennett, Chopin,Ginastera, Gliere, Arkadie Kouguell, Piazzolla, and Rick Sowash.
Tickets are free and are distributed beginning at noon. They go fast, so come early and enjoy the beautiful Arboretum!
