The Music of Steven Gerber – an evening of his chamber music will be presented on Friday, August 2 at Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker Street in Manhattan. Doors will open at 6:30 and the concert starts at 7:30. This event is sponsored by Le Poisson Rouge, and will celebrate both the composer’s 65th birthday and the release of his new Albany Records CD (Mostly) Piano Music (Troy 1416).
Performers will be violinist Kurt Nikkanen, violinist and violist Cyrus Beroukhim, and cellist Karen Ouzounian, with the composer at the piano.
Works to be performed are Fantasy for solo violin, 3 Songs Without Words for solo violin, Norma’s Variations for violin and piano, 5 Greek Folksongs (After Ravel) for violin and piano, 2 Anitphonal Pieces for cello and piano (world premiere), Elegy on the Name “Dmitri Shostakovich” for solo viola, Fantasy, Fugue, and Chaconne for viola and cello, Notturno for violin, cello, and piano, 3 Pieces for Two Violins, and 3 Folksong Transformations for violin, cello, and piano.
