ACEGroup813The critically-acclaimed American Chamber Ensemble will be in concert on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 3:00 PM when the Music Department of Hofstra University presents the ensemble at The Helene Fortunoff Theater of Monroe Lecture Center on California Avenue on the University’s south campus in Hempstead.

Selections will be Benny’s Gig by Morton Gould (celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth), Quartet for clarinet and strings by Howard Boatwright, Piano Trio in B flat by Arthur Foote, Cafe Music by Paul Schoenfield, Through the Window by Jonathan Russ and Into the Light by Martin Wind.

Performers will be ACE Directors, pianist Blanche Abram, clarinetist Naomi Drucker and pianist Marilyn Lehman, with violinist Eriko Sato, violist Lois Martin, cellist Chris Finckel and soprano Karen Lehman DiMartino. Guest artist will be bassist Martin Wind.

Special guests will be Morton Gould’s daughter Abby Burton, who will speak about her father, as well as ACE’s Composer-in-Residence Jonathan Russ (

Martin Wind

Bassist and composer Martin Wind was born in Flensburg, Germany in 1968 and moved to New York in 1996 to study at New York University (NYU) with a scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service. Since his move to New York Martin has become a regular at all major jazz clubs and is also in demand as a session player. He has been on the faculty at New York University since 1997 and has also been a faculty member at the National Youth Jazz Orchestra Germany; he’s been a guest at many colleges and jazz programs all over the U.S. and abroad.
