Momenta QuartetCome join the Momenta Quartet for an exciting lineup of NYC concerts in January and February!

New York Festival of Song, “Mark Adamo and FriendsTuesday, January 28, 7:30pm

Presented by the New York Festival of Song’s “Next” Series. Momenta will be featured in Mark Adamo‘s Aristotle (2012) for baritone and string quartet, joined by star baritone Joshua Jeremiah. Aristotle was originally commissioned by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and written for Thomas Hampson to sing with the Jupiter String Quartet. Aristotle is the setting of a poem of the same name by former national Poet Laureate Billy Collins, which explores the nature of beginnings (where “almost anything can happen”), middles (“the sticky part where the plot congeals”), and the ends that are, “according to Aristotle, what we have all been waiting for.”

Spain-inspired concert with guitarist Mak Grgic – Wednesday, January 29, 8pm
For Momenta fans in New York City, this is an encore performance of their Spanish-infused program presented five times (!) the previous week in New Jersey by the Princeton Symphony Chamber Series. The Spanish Catholic religious heritage is explored in 16th-century composer Tomás Luis de Victoria’s stunning motet “Quam pulchri sunt”; as well as in Momenta’s Koussevitzky-commissioned “Sin tiempo” (2013) by Bolivian composer Agustín Fernández, who will be making a rare US appearance for his piece’s New York premiere. Momenta rounds out their Spanish extravaganza with two composers who looked frequently to Spain for inspiration: Luigi Boccherini (his E-Major Guitar Quintet, joined by fellow Serious Music Media roster artist guitarist Mak Grgić) and Claude Debussy (with his visionary String Quartet).
