TIGUE unites genres for premiere of Robert Honstein’s “Index…”

On Thursday June 13th Percussion trio TIGUE presents INDEXED, an evening of live performances unifying genres in support of the premiere of Robert Honstein’s new percussion work “An Index of Possibility.” With the help of performances from ObTuse AbsurdiTies (Dennis Sullivan) and Elliot Cole, INDEXED features everything from the theatrical works of avant-gardist Georges Aperghis to the pop-influenced compositions of TIGUE and experimental Hip Hop of Elliot Cole. INDEXED brings it’s unique blend of genres to Brooklyn’s youthful performance venue JACK at 8 p.m.

Commissioned in 2012, “An Index of Possibility” has been a unique project between composer Robert Honstein and percussion trio TIGUE. Written specifically for instruments and household items owned by the group’s performers, Honstein’s work traverses varying landscapes through a limited palette of percussive sounds. TIGUE is the latest project from Matt Evans, Amy Garapic and Carson Moody; a group that exists somewhere between a chamber ensemble and a band, presenting contemporary music of friends, contemporaries and themselves through a lens of percussive elements.

INDEXED opens with Brooklyn’s ObTuse AbsurdiTies, the solo project of Dennis Sullivan in which he puts forth a nonpareil product rooted in the intersection of music, theater, and analog electronics. Sullivan will perform a selection of works from Alexander Schubert, Georges Aperghis and Vinko Globokar with intent to create a product devoid of genre classification that will appeal to all ears. Elliot Cole will close the night with his project HANUMAN’S LEAP, an experiment in traditional epic storytelling through Cole’s unique melding of Hip Hop, Reggae and Art Rock. Along with members of TIGUE, Cole retells a story from the Ramayana about a monkey’s jump from India to Sri Lanka.

Admission is $10 at the door. The show will begin promptly at 8 p.m. with sets following on the hour. JACK is located at 505 1/2 Waverly Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11238 Between Fulton and Atlantic in Clinton Hill (C or G train to Clinton-Washington). Questions? Contact
