Illuminations and Reflections: Carter/Messiaen Conference in San Francisco!
![]()
I just got to San Francisco, where I’m presenting this weekend at Illuminations and Reflections: a conference at San Francisco State University devoted to Music in the 21st Century. The spotlight will be on the two composers, Carter and Messiaen, as well SFSU faculty member Richard Festinger, with a concert given in celebration of his 60th birthday.
There will be panels and papers given on a host of topics, from the aforementioned centenarians to concert halls in the digital age. Presenters include Robert Morris and Harvey Sollberger. Soprano Susan Narucki is singing Tempo e Tempi and Poémes Pour Mi.
I’ll be talking about Elliott Carter’s Dialogues and some of the other late concerti. If you’re able to come to the conference and an S21 reader, please say hello.
