Tiger Flower Circle Sun
Ghostly International
Producer, label owner, and electronic musician Christopher Willits is prolific – he’s released some 20 recordings as a solo artist and in a variety of collaborations. Tiger Flower Circle Sun, his lastest release for Ghostly International, combines some of the intimate elements of the bedroom pop aesthetic – close-miked vocals, gently articulated phrasing, which are countered by lush soundscapes – soaring guitars and warm layers of synths.
Stretches of the LP present as ambient electronica; others as an indie pop album. I like it best when the two genres blur together, as they do on “Light into Branches,” a beautiful ode to hazy summer afternoons It serves as an aural reminder of how quickly these summer afternoons are blurring together; time to take Willits’ recording on the road to savor outside!
