Pianist Lisa Moore is giving a recital on Sunday at 3 PM at the Church of the Transfiguration in New York. The program features to 21st century pieces: the New York premiere of Ishi’s Song by Martin Bresnick and Jerome Kitzke’s Bringing Roses with her Words (2009), a work composed for Moore. The Bresnick piece is based upon the melody of a Yahi Indian song. Ishi was the last known speaker of this persecuted Native American tribe’s language and it is from recordings made by anthropologists of his speaking and singing that we have spare fragments of their culture. Kitzke’s work, one of several he has written for amplified speaking pianist, is a memorial to the composer’s first love, who passed away in 2008. The program also includes pieces by Schumann, Scriabin, Haydn, and Janacek.
