The “Hymn to Uruk” appears twice in Gilgamesh Variations, once at the beginning and once near the very end (in terms of the stone tablets, Tablet I and Tablet XI). The cast includes both singers and non-singers; I’m hoping this strikes a balance between evoking the language we’re using for the rest of the incidental music without unduly challenging the actors.
