About the Festival

The Mostly Mozart Festival began in 1966 and was named, “Midsummer Serenades: A Mozart Festival,” which seemed appropriate since it consisted entirely of Mozart’s music. Held in Avery Fisher Hall, the Festival proved that the world was ready for an indoor summer music festival, and it has been proving it ever since. Crowds immediately adored the inexpensive ticket prices and the less stuffy concert-going atmosphere, not to mention the outstanding entertainment. But, in order to keep the crowds coming every year for the past 44 years, the Festival had to grow and improve, and it has done both of those things. Today, the Festival offers the latest musical ensembles, dance performances, period-instrument ensembles, visiting orchestras, opera productions, composers, artists-in-residence, late-night shows, films, lectures and more. It’s a music celebration worth celebrating! You won’t want to miss this one.
