Sixty-one years ago today, the U. S. A. dropped the first atomic bomb used on a civilian population on Hiroshima, Japan.
Although Penderecki originally titled this piece “8:37” his later title “Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima” makes this work one of the most horrifying musical expressions.
I’m reticent to say much about politics or world affairs or to place any blame since many of views may viewed as too idealistic and radical. However, in this time of ever-escalating and seemingly endless world conflicts when many countries have the means for far greater destruction than what was rained on Japan in August 1945, I strongly suggest that we all take a moment to reflect and pray that we can show a little more humanity towards our fellow humans.
