These pieces are two meditations that I believe, if explicated, must be explicated succinctly.

“Jour Contre Jour” is meant to display the transformation(s) from a psychological conception of normal or daily time to a psychological conception the musical time.

George Rochberg wrote the haunting “Contra Mortem et Tempus” (”Against Death and Time”) shortly after his son died in 1963.
