Bolcom Cleans Up at GRAMMYs

William Bolcom's Songs of Innocence and of Experience on Naxos won three GRAMMYs tonight for Best Classical Album, Best Choral Performance, and Best Classical Contemporary Composition. These are the first GRAMMYs for a Naxos classical recording, so we're mighty proud.

In a phone call yesterday, Bolcom expressed hope that the award would encourage labels to record similar large-scale works. For me, Songs of Innocence and of Experience shows that American classical music can be commercially--and not just critically--successful. It's been great to be part of a recording that has felt like a real cultural event since its release.
