Eyebeam Teaching Artist Michelle Nagai leads a series of Friday afternoon workshops on soundwalking and mapping. Participants will learn the basic practice of the soundwalk and get a chance to document their listening experiences through audio and video recording, journaling, drawing and Deep Listening exercises. Each workshop covers a different area of the Chelsea neighborhood surrounding Eyebeam, from the Hudson River to 8th Avenue. The mapping completed during the workshops will be incorporated into City in a Soundwalk, an on-line multi-media sound, ecology and culture mapping project being developed by Nagai as part of the NYSoundmap, an initiative of the New York Society for Acoustic Ecology.

The workshops can be taken individually or as a series, and are open to all ages and skill levels free of charge. No prior experience is required. All materials and equipment are provided, although participants are encourage to bring their own audio, photo or video recording gear if they have it. Dress appropriately for the weather, including rain.
