New Single: Khruangbin remixes Arooj Aftab

Khruangbin remixes Arooj Aftab Arooj Aftab’s Night Reign was one of my favorite recordings of 2024. Candice Hopes releases new single: “In the Upper Room”

One of Sequenza 21’s friends  is the “Diasporic Soprano” Candice Hoyes. A versatile vocalist and songwriter, she sings everything from opera to jazz to pop adjacent new music. Her new single, “In the Upper Room (For Mary Winnifred)” for soprano, piano, and bass is out today and available on Bandcamp. Venusian Motel Guests: “The Re-entry of Embers” (single)

Guitarist Mike Skagerlind and synth-player Chris Romero, alongside electronic beats, perform as Venusian Motel Guests. I’ve been spending a fair bit of time listening to their upcoming EP, All Was Carbon, which will be released on April 24th. Today their first teaser track, “The Re-entry of Embers,” has been released (see the Bandcamp embed below to stream). It embodies just one of the many moods found on the EP, with a laidback groove featuring melodic guitar riffs and a bass synth providing a countermelody and occasional surges that add to the syncopated feel of the track. “Everything Collides” – Bruno Bavota and Chantal Acda

Duo Bruno Bavota and Chantal Acda have released a teaser track from their forthcoming album, “A Closer Distance” (Temporary Residence). The recording is out on October 7th. In the meantime, one can revel in Acda’s gentle singing of short phrases and keening overdubs alongside Bavota’s post-minimal arpeggiations. They are a well-suited musical pair.
