Leon Kirchner (1919-2009)

Leon Kirchner died today after a long illness. NewMusicBox has an obit. We’ll add more as we find them.

The Boston Globe had a 90th-birthday interview with Kirchner just this past January.

    I took a composition course with Kirchner about 25 years ago. He struck me as a very sensitive, thoughtful man – kind-hearted, and somewhat haunted.

    My review of Kirchner’s 90th birthday concert at Miller Theatre is in the latest issue of Tempo. A fine composer. He will be missed.
