Oh man, I’m stepping in it big. Especially for my first week. I was thinking of copping-out and posting a piece that I’ve been working on for a few weeks (and will be performed at a Composer’s Voice Concert next month!) but no, I am not doing that. I sat down today and wrote a fresh piece, just for you. It is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while, a sound that has been in my brain for years, and I never had reason to actually write it.
I’ve thought about making a song cycle/collection of limericks. It would certainly take the right singer to pull off correctly, I think, and a compositional challenge since all the poems are rhythmically so exact. And then there is the subject matter…
WARNING: EXPLICIT LYRICS! Don’t say I didn’t warn you: Limerick
What do I like: I like the rhythm, the linear aspect of both parts makes me happy, I like not writing for piano, too. I’m not a harmonic composer. Chords aren’t my thing. This is something I hope to confront with this project: cultivating a sense of harmony.
What don’t I like: the poem is offensive, it will probably never get performed, I started to forget my original melody as I wrote the piece down, it seems frivolous. It also seems like a weak first attempt for the project.

LOL! Thanks I needed that.
