Unhappy the Land That Needs a Hero

It's hard to focus on something as seemingly frivolous as music when so many of our fellow Americans are still reeling in misery from the ravages of a great storm and criminal neglect. But, eventually, once the flood waters have dried and large areas of Mississippi and Alabama have been re-built, and all the political cover-ups have been spun, and New Orleans rediscovers its groove, composers and other artists will respond to this tragedy the only way they know how--by creating music and art. As Pliable reminds us below, it has always been so and that, in itself, is a kind of testament to the durability of the human spirit. Read Everette Minchew's eyewitness account of Katrina.
